"With God all things are possible" (Matt. 19:26)

"With God all things are possible" (Matt. 19:26). These words of Christ Jesus' were proved to me many years ago in an experience for which I want to give thanks even today. In 1938, I was faced with a difficult problem. I was a concert singer at that time and had to fulfill a concert engagement. I went on stage slightly indisposed and developed the worst kind of inflammation of the vocal chords. After the concert a very severe hoarseness set in, so that I was no longer able to speak or sing. I could make myself understood only through sign language. On account of this I felt obliged to cancel several upcoming concerts.

At the urging of a music director, who was a friend, I went to see a throat specialist to have the trouble diagnosed. The physician's findings were crushing to me, since he gave me no hope for an improvement in my voice. He stated further that I should give up forever the thought of a normal closure of the glottis.

At that time I was just a beginner in Christian Science. On the way home I fearlessly realized, as well as I could, that God had made me perfect and I could use my voice in praise of God, who is Love. When I reached home, I immediately got in touch with a Christian Science practitioner, described the case clearly, and asked for treatment. Her reassuring words and loving encouragement gave me comfort and strength. Two weeks later I was healed. The healing was confirmed by the same physician who had examined my throat. He declared, "A miracle has taken place here."
