My first testimony appeared in the Sentinel over twenty years ago. I wrote of an alarming condition of indigestion, which was instantly and permanently healed as a dear friend explained Christian Science to me. However, my mother told me later that the medical diagnosis had been that instead of indigestion the condition was cancer in its last stages. She thought it best that I should not be told of this at that time. There has never been a return of this condition. A required medical examination a few years later pronounced me absolutely healthy.

My dear mother was bitterly opposed to Christian Science and did not accept my healing. Later I wrote her that the healing had remained complete, and she was amazed. For years she refused to discuss the beautiful truths of Christian Science. However, she finally wrote me that if I would send her what she called "that awful book" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy), she would read it.

I sent her a beautiful set of books, the King James Version of the Bible, Science and Health(the Christian Science textbook), and the Christian Science Quarterly so that she might study the Lesson-Sermon.
