Silent Prayer in Church

"What do you do during silent prayer in Sunday School?" I asked an eight-year-old friend. He answered, "I see if I can count up to one hundred."

His answer reminded me how many times a hundred and one things try to crowd into my thought during silent prayer. Gratitude welled up in me as I remembered that each time my thought is tempted to wander I almost immediately remember the provision for prayer in church Mary Baker Eddy makes in the Manual of The Mother Church.

I asked my little friend, "Would you like to know what Mrs. Eddy says about prayer in Christian Science services?" Eagerly he listened as I read from the Manual: "The prayers in Christian Science churches shall be offered for the congregations collectively and exclusively."Man., Art. VIII, Sect. 5;
