"One moment of divine consciousness, or the spiritual understanding of Life and Love, is a foretaste of eternity," Mary Baker Eddy tells us in the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (p. 598).

The precious moments of divine consciousness I have been blessed with through the years of my study of Christian Science have been a source of inspiration and encouragement when the going has been rugged. Every day has in some degree been a day of demonstration and the unfoldment of good.

One Sunday morning many years ago I asked a school friend who was a Christian Scientist to take me with her to the Christian Science Sunday School. My need was very great, as I had a stepfather who was in the last stages of alcoholism. He was an attorney, and his law practice had gone down to nil. Also we had lost our lovely home. He had gotten to the stage that when he drank, which seemed to be all his waking hours, he would become violent. My mother and I lived in constant worry and fear.
