The Parent and the Child

In training and educating children it is helpful for parents to remember that the real man is God's child, who has a heritage of boundless health, purity, and love. Mrs. Eddy writes: "In Science man is the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry. ... Spirit is his primitive and ultimate source of being; God is his Father, and Life is the law of his being." Science and Health, p. 63;

The opposite claim—the claim for a false concept of man called a mortal—may be found in the book of Job. "Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble." Job 14:1; It is this mortal concept that the world would keep in our thought and experience as the true identity of both parent and child. But spiritual man, the real and only man, is not "born of a woman," is not humanly conceived and formed, nor troubled by the world's limited thinking. Man is the idea of God. His only ancestor is the Father-Mother God, and his only inheritance is the spiritual universe, the universe of unlimited development, health, opportunity, love, and liberty. In human experience we can be safe, well, and at peace by persistently knowing and applying these spiritual truths.

The divine Father, who created man, could never treat him cruelly or allow him to be anything but perfect. The Father is always with man, for He is omnipresent. Man is safe in the presence of God.
