Peace and Honor

One of the basic necessities of human life is the ability to look at oneself, say "I am right," and believe it. Whenever an individual finds himself in a position where he cannot do this, he becomes unhappy with himself or with the world around him.

Over the centuries many wars have been fought for honor. If one can define honor in terms of people's ability to continue looking at themselves and be convinced they are right, perhaps that is what some wars have won. But Christian Science insists that one does not really look at oneself until he recognizes his existence as an idea, or reflection, of God, Spirit. Mary Baker Eddy writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "For right reasoning there should be but one fact before the thought, namely, spiritual existence." Science and Health, p. 492;

Christian Science shows that many cases of human discord or disease involve the failure to achieve, within oneself, peace with honor. Real peace comes with right reasoning. It is a spiritual sense of self that is in harmony with God, divine Love. When this sense of self honors Spirit as the Soul of man, it expresses the love that reflects divine Love. Then the individual gains a sense of health that is true, and a sense of peace that is truly honorable.
