"Correct material belief by spiritual understanding, and Spirit will form you anew," we read in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 425).

Our family is comparatively new in Science, having relied on it for healing for only four years. I'd like to share an experience my son had two years ago. A dental checkup revealed an abscessed tooth and two cavities needing attention. The dentist wished to treat the abscessed tooth, hoping he might save it. My husband and I decided to have Christian Science help. We advised the dentist of this and said I would make an appointment with him to fill the cavities after the abscess was healed.

My thought needed much clarification, and a Christian Science practitioner was asked to give treatment. After a couple of weeks I mentioned to him that the healing was apparently not taking place. His reply was, "How do you know? Are you checking?" Of course, I had been. He told me we must never look to matter for the healing in matter, that I must stop checking and I would know when the healing was taking place because I would be at peace. As for the dental appointment, he recommended that I not make those arrangements until I felt that it was absolutely right. My peace did come after a few weeks, but whenever I thought about the appointment, I lacked the conviction that this was the right time.
