Spiritual Learning for Preschoolers

Recently our three-year-old son was overheard talking to a little friend. "I fell off the sofa and went BOOM on the floor," he said. "But I'm all right. God loves me!" The conviction and joy in his voice proved that he understood that God is Love and that he himself was God's child, embraced in His care. Parents can be grateful for this type of progress in spiritual reasoning that results from consistent, loving instruction on the child's level of comprehension.

Mrs. Eddy says, "While age is halting between two opinions or battling with false beliefs, youth makes easy and rapid strides towards Truth." Science and Health, p. 236; This is especially evident when parents take steps to plan and direct a child's spiritual growth and development of true, God-given consciousness.

There isn't any activity more important in raising children than educating them to develop their spiritual nature, helping them to see themselves as full and complete expressions of God's omnipotent love. Reminding us of this responsibility, Mrs. Eddy says, "Parents should teach their children at the earliest possible period the truths of health and holiness."1
