Our Pleasant Place
The saying "Stone walls do not a prison make, nor iron bars a cage" points to the teaching of Christian Science that a human being's place is essentially the outward manifestation of the state of his consciousness. All experience is basically mental.
Therefore, in an intolerable situation, the ability to think freely and rightly, in line with an understanding of the omnipresence and all-power of Mind, God, will not just make one more content; it will have an effect on the condition itself. When false, material belief of limitation or discord is removed from thought, one can no longer experience a life of bondage. One finds that either the bad condition within one's present environment changes or one is lifted out of the environment to something better.
Well, then, if we're not satisfied with our place—our home, employment, or place in society—to bring about a lasting improvement, we need to work out the problem in our own consciousness.
