From the Directors
Our members and friends who have visited The Mother Church in recent months have witnessed the unfolding progress and beauty of the Christian Science Center. With the Sunday School Building already completed and in use, and the new Administration Building and Church Colonnade to be occupied early this year, the utility and grace of the total plan are becoming increasingly visible.
We are pleased to announce the beginning of the crowning phase of the project, which will give the extension of The Mother Church the appropriate entrance and vista that have long been envisioned for it. This step will include provision of a plaza area which will make The Mother Church readily visible and accessible from three sides. A new portico, as previously announced, will provide easier and more gracious access to the main auditorium and first balcony through the use of modern elevators, as well as beautify the exterior. The portico and plaza construction are expected to be completed within two and a half years.
All wishing to share in this unique aspect of construction are invited to make their contributions payable to Roy Garrett Watson, Treasurer, Christian Science Center, Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A. 02115. Contributors may specifically designate for the portico any part or all of their gift to the Building Fund. Any excess of funds so designated will be used for other phases of the building project.
