The life of a Christian Scientist is one of joy and gratitude

The life of a Christian Scientist is one of joy and gratitude. It is a continuing series of experiences which he identifies as Immanuel, a Hebrew word meaning "God with us." When Christian Scientists have problems, they know that their religion provides solutions.

I was born in a Christian Science home and as a youngster was healed of all kinds of so-called children's diseases quickly and effectively. My school years were remarkably free of absences. One experience I recall, however, was that of my healing of diphtheria, for it was my first experience of being examined by a physician. My parents called the doctor in compliance with a city ordinance requiring the reporting of certain contagious diseases. I was impressed by the large red sign the doctor posted on our front door to warn of the disease and the quarantine. However, the desire of my parents to rely upon Christian Science alone for healing was respected.

The complete healing was not as rapid as my earlier ones. Although the quarantine was lifted in the usual time and way, I had apparently lost the hearing in one ear. The Christian Science practitioner who gave me treatment continued her prayerful work, and a few days after my return to school I noticed I was hearing normally again, for I was not asking the teacher to repeat questions and statements. My hearing has been normal ever since.
