When Christian Science found me, my husband and I had separated. My family was broken up, and I had moved with my older child to another town. I felt that I could no longer live with my husband, as he drank to excess. I was very resentful, unhappy, and in need. I became very ill with flu. An acquaintance came to me and told me about Christian Science. She read from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. She gave me a copy of a Christian Science lecture and asked me to read it. I read awhile and fell asleep. I awakened completely healed.
Right then I began the study of Christian Science. As I studied, I realized how much I must change my thinking in order to follow Jesus' example. Mrs. Eddy writes: "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick. Thus Jesus taught that the kingdom of God is intact, universal, and that man is pure and holy" (Science and Health, pp. 476, 477).
As I made the effort, I began to feel the infinite presence and power of God. My concept of God, myself, and my fellowman changed from a material to a spiritual view.
