Listen to the Secret Place

We each have an oasis, a place of perfect peace, stillness, beauty. We exist in the midst of magnificent rest, but how often we seem to ignore it!

Let your thoughts be still for a minute—completely still. Listen. Listen at the center of your being. Does not God, divine Spirit, wordlessly speak to you of peace? If we let go—really drop—all human opinion, selfish will, and material care, and listen to the infinite Unseen with total humility and unfeigned love, we will hear no sorrow, only joy. This consciousness of the divine presence is our secret place of which it is said David sang when he was alone in the silent Judean hills. The words may have been a shepherd boy's, but the singing was God's:

"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall ... not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day .... There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling." Ps. 91:1, 5, 10;
