I can never express in words my gratitude for Christian Science

I can never express in words my gratitude for Christian Science. I was first introduced to it at the age of twelve through a healing of my mother, and I began to attend the Sunday School in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. About two years before this I had received a blow in the eye while playing, and subsequently a large dark spot appeared on my cheek. Medical opinion was that it was not malignant but nothing could be done to remove it until I was older, and then it would probably leave a scar. As I entered my teens, I was conscious of this blotch and would gaze at it in the mirror and examine it closely.

When I attended the Sunday School, I began to learn of man's spiritual perfection as a child of God. One day I spoke of this disfigurement to an earnest student of Christian Science and was told to look away from matter, not to gaze at it in the mirror but to erase it from my thinking. I conscientiously began to do this until I forgot all about the spot, and when I thought of it again some months later it had vanished completely. This was my first healing in Christian Science, and it impressed me very much.

While at college, I picked up a pan with my right hand, the handle of which had been laid across a lighted gas burner. I immediately denied that accidents are part of God's kingdom. The pain was great at first, and I wrapped my hand in a clean handkerchief, went to my bedroom, and took out my Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I do not know what I read, but the pain subsided. Upon going to bed some two hours later I noticed that a slight redness and a little sensitivity was all that remained. The following morning I was able to do my chores quite painlessly and later played in a tennis match.
