Sometimes those who are born into Christian Science families...
Sometimes those who are born into Christian Science families are so well protected that they take the evidences of God's care in their lives for granted. Perhaps this was my situation. While my parents only attended the Christian Science church occasionally, I did attend Sunday School, and two of my grandparents were early workers in the Christian Science movement. Whenever any problem arose in our family, we just told Grandmother, and the problem was solved! Always and instantaneously. In sixteen years of schooling and, later, in over thirty years of employment, I did not miss one day due to illness or accident, with one exception—my parents, obedient to the law, kept me home for one week from grammar school because I had the mumps. As I recall, the symptoms disappeared on the first day of confinement. Also, I have never used medicines.
As a youth I was always greatly impressed with the ease with which any problems were handled in Christian Science. Needed employment came easily when I was attending high school and college during the so-called depression years. I was able to earn all my college expenses and still attend classes full time and participate in athletic and other activities.
Shortly after I enlisted in the Army Air Force at the start of World War II, our entire barracks was put into the contagious diseases ward at the base hospital because of alarming symptoms. By this time I had learned to do my own prayerful protective work, and to the amazement of the medical staff, and in spite of this exposure, I did not come down with the contagion and was soon released from the hospital.
