Christian Science has meant much to me and my family...

Christian Science has meant much to me and my family for many years. I have received invaluable inspiration and encouragement from the testimonies published in the periodicals, and am writing this in the hope that it will help others.

When one of our sons was in kindergarten, his teacher told us that the school psychologist, the principal, and she herself found him to be mentally retarded and did not believe that he could be taught in the public schools. They advised that we have him examined and tested by a well-known children's neurological expert to determine the extent of his retardation. Even though I had been a longtime student of Christian Science, I was quite shocked and fearful at the claim they had made about this dear little one. My husband, who is not a student of Christian Science, lovingly left to me the decision as to what should be done.

I immediately called my teacher in Christian Science for help and spent all the available time studying references from the Bible and from the writings of Mary Baker Eddy on Mind, completeness, intelligence, man, and reflection. The school had told me that with the report of the neurologist they could place the child in an educational program outside the public school, but without this report they could not put him anywhere in a learning position.
