My experience may be compared to the account given in the Bible of "a woman . . . which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any" (Luke 8:43). It is further related that she was healed when she touched the border of Jesus' garment.

From young womanhood I suffered chronic attacks of what was described by physicians as ulcerative colitis. In spite of the sincere efforts of the doctors who attended me, the loving care I received in hospitals, the diets adhered to, the treatments and drugs I took, there was no permanent help. I had heard of Christian Science. In fact, I had purchased the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, but had laid it aside without studying it.

When I returned home from the hospital alter my last severe attack, the thought occurred to me that I should really investigate Christian Science. I began to attend Sunday services and Wednesday evening testimony meetings in a neighborhood branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and I studied the weekly Lesson–Sermon. When the next attack presented itself, I visited a Christian Science practitioner (who later became my teacher) and asked for help. He assured me of my perfection as a child of God.
