[Ability to demonstrate Christian Science comes with study and practice of the truth taught by Christ Jesus and revealed in Science and Health. This series touches upon some ways in which this truth can be applied.]
Healing a patient by healing oneself
When you are asked by someone who is ill to pray for his healing and you agree, you have a problem. Although the giving of a treatment, as explained in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, involves much more, the solution of your problem does result in the healing of the patient.
Although you know, if you are a Christian Scientist, that God is All, and He is good, you have now agreed to face some specific evidence that something other than good exists. You know that man is the reflection of God, yet this individual appears to have symptoms that are the opposite of God's reflection. He also thinks like a material person, not like a spiritual idea of infinite Mind.
Holding to the spiritual facts of being, you do not let yourself believe for a moment that the disease symptoms the patient complains of are real, nor do you admit for an instant that the false thinking—selfishness, hatred, fear, confusion, or whatever—has any reality.
