Gird up the loins of your mind (I Pet. 1:13)
In the Bible, to gird up the loins indicated readiness for activity. Phillips gives this vivid translation: "So brace up your minds, and, as men who know what they are doing, rest the full weight of your hopes on the grace that will be yours when Jesus Christ reveals himself." (See also Luke 12:35.)
Ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers (I Pet. 1:18)
