The Healing Power of the One Mind

A key point in the Science of spiritual healing is the fact that the infinite Mind, God, alone actually knows the truth of being. A human mind that catches a glimpse of truth, repeats it, acknowledges it, declares it, accepts it, defends it, is approaching a knowledge of the truth. But as long as there appear to be two minds, a human mind and a divine Mind, there is some distance to go before there is real knowing of the truth.

Christ Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:32 But to him, knowing the truth was not a human technique to be followed in order to produce a healing; it was an inevitable consequence of faithfully following in the way he taught. He insisted he could do nothing of himself. "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work," 5:17 he said.

His teachings offered no shortcuts to healing but required deep reformation of character, putting off hypocrisy, hatred, anger, self-seeking—learning to be just, merciful, forgiving, understanding, patient, faithful, and so on. Only through obedience to the law of Love can one realize that sonship which experiences the Father's working. "Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven." Matt. 5:44,45
