Christian Science is indispensable to me in raising my children

Christian Science is indispensable to me in raising my children. I would like to tell some of the ways in which it has helped me in our home.

One day I could not stop a temper tantrum, complete with loud screaming, of one of our children. For ten minutes I tried everything. Finally I left him screaming and prayerfully opened the Bible for inspiration. There I read, "Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands" (Ps. 66:1). Of course, I laughed, for the child's noise was far from joyous. The laughter broke the tension, and I regained my sense of perspective.

Then I realized that earlier in the day I had told someone that three-year-olds usually go through a phase of opposing authority. I knew that this was an error of statement, which Mrs. Eddy corrects in her definition of "children." She states (Science and Health, p. 582): "Children. The spiritual thoughts and representatives of Life, Truth, and Love." Further in the same definition are these words: "Counterfeits of creation, whose better originals are God's thoughts, not in embryo, but in maturity; material suppositions of life, substance, and intelligence, opposed to the Science of being." As I contemplated the truths of this definition, I realized that as representatives of Truth and Love children are not "opposed to the Science of being." The tantrum ended abruptly. Our children have experienced many physical healings through the understanding of Christian Science, including such things as an infected ear, colds, stomachache, and the results of bee stings and accidents.
