ANSWER THE CALL

Answer the call,
the cry in the root,
the longing awake in a bird's throat.
It cannot die.

Something bright
yearns in all
that's pure: the light words await.
Answer it.

Answer the call,
this love in you—
the healing flame of the Christ whose truth
cannot burn out.

Open up
to the inner cry,
this ageless, virginal heart's height
of sinless joy!
