It was in 1928 that I had my first healing in Christian Science

It was in 1928 that I had my first healing in Christian Science. For three weeks, to no avail, I had gone to a medical doctor for hemorrhoids. My aunt asked me to call a Christian Science practitioner, which I did, and the healing was instantaneous. I was so grateful for this that I started to study the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly daily and to attend church services.

When I was married in 1931, my husband and I went to a small mining camp in Alaska, near the Arctic Circle, to make our home. There were no churches in the camp. The mail came once a month by dog them, and that was a joyous occasion to receive The Christian Science Journal and Christian Science Sentinel. These periodicals are both the missionaries and churches of the far North. The testimonies served to inspire faith in healing, as do the Wednesday evening testimony meetings.

Somehow I felt very near to God when we were way up North. It was easier for me there in our isolated situation to shut out material thoughts and be consciously with God. Mrs. Eddy states in Science and Health (p. 15): "In order to pray aright, we must enter into the closet and shut the door. We must close the lips and silence the material senses."
