Is the Bible to Blame for Pollution?
People ask about the ecological crisis, "What is to blame—government, industry, the churches?" Each to a degree. Yet these institutions are made up of people acting according to their values, their conscience.
What has made some humans think it is right to destroy rivers, trees, and creatures of the earth? Generally speaking, our concepts of what is right sanction what we do. Among peoples of European origin, concepts of religion and the Bible have powerfully shaped national views of what is right.
It is popular to say that society's values are not based on religion anymore. Is this true?
