Lord JEHOVAH (Isa. 26:4)
Jamieson, Fausset and Brown comment, "Hebrew, Jah, Jehovah. The union of the two names expresses in the highest degree God's unchanging love and power (cf. Ps. 68:4)." Hastings writes: "The pronunciation Jehovah ... appeared only in late mediaeval times. ... That the pronunciation in ancient times was Yahweh is concluded from transcriptions in the early Christian Fathers." Yahweh is usually translated into English as "Lord."
The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord (Mark 12:29)
