Among my earliest memories...
Among my earliest memories is that of being told by my parents that as a baby I was healed through Christian Science of an ailment pronounced fatal by a medical doctor.
It was the story of a mother who had faithfully taken her infant son on repeated visits to a specialist sixty miles from home until the final sad ride home after having been told by the doctor that coming again was of no use. Nothing further could be done. At this point the promise of healing in Christian Science was offered by a next door neighbor. The help was wholeheartedly accepted. The disorder, a stomach malfunction that denied proper digestion of food, was healed. The healing came swiftly. And it has been permanent.
I have cherished over the years the neighbor concept brought out in that first healing. It has reminded me of the nearness of the Truth and of Love that makes it universally available. When Jesus was asked (Luke 10:29), "And who is my neighbour?" his parable presented the good Samaritan from another country. The parable frees thought from the limits of a physical neighborhood.
