One morning three summers ago I awoke with a stiff and numb feeling on the side of my face and, upon looking in the mirror, saw the left side of my face was distorted. A large swelling drew my mouth upward, and the whole picture was most unsightly.
I was staying in a guesthouse, and at breakfast fear and concern were expressed by the housekeeper, who said I should go and have the trouble seen to by a doctor as soon as possible. I thanked her for her kind advice, and since I was not able to eat much, because of my mouth, I quickly left the dining room.
Fortunately I had the day free. I had a great longing to go away quietly and spend the day listening to God's voice, which we know speaks to us through the Bible and our Christian Science literature. It was a beautiful summer day, and so, covering my face with a scarf, I found a quiet spot under some trees in the park where I opened Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy to the chapter entitled "Genesis." As I read the truth concerning the real creation contained in this chapter, I felt like a thirsty man who, wandering in a desert, has found a river of water. I read on and on, rejoicing in this revelation of the true creation, where everything God made is good. All the time my joy was increasing as Truth flooded my consciousness.
