Prayer Stills the Emotions
A frenzied confrontation appears on the television screen. Right away we recognize that those who are taking part in it are on an emotional binge. Centuries ago the prophet Isaiah spoke of such as "drunken, but not with wine." Isa. 29:9;
Most of our difficulties involve emotional instability in some form. Extreme cases are easily identified. But most of us would be apt to deny that we are emotional.
It is being brought out more and more that diseases of various kinds are really emotional in nature, although they appear to be physical. We all know how the body responds to sudden fear or anger. But what about a habitual feeling of frustration, resentment, rebellion—or even anxiety and uncertainty? It is possible that chronic ailments we endure day after day may be traced to agitated and disturbed emotions.
