Opposing Aggressive Pornography
To encounter some of the salacious books and magazines currently on display is for many people a jolting and revolting experience. Still more unhealthy are the sexually explicit scenes in plays and movies where nothing is left to the imagination.
What is happening? Are we seeing in our civilization signs of the moral decay so prominent in the decline of earlier systems? No, not this time, for there now is a vastly important factor at work in human thinking that finally will purge it and lift it up. God's law as revealed in Christian Science is leavening the thought of mortals, and what we are really seeing is the dregs of carnality coming to the surface as Truth stirs up the mental mud. Mrs. Eddy writes, "The muddy river-bed must be stirred in order to purify the stream." Science and Health, p. 540; For over a century dedicated students of Christian Science have been striving to elevate their thought above matter and its mesmeric demands. Despite this work, there appears to be an acceleration of crime and sensuality, but those who understand what actually is going on are not downhearted. They read the signs with a deeper insight, and are encouraged to press on until the victory over evil is won.
Mrs. Eddy foresaw what would occur, and she tells us: "During this final conflict, wicked minds will endeavor to find means by which to accomplish more evil; but those who discern Christian Science will hold crime in check. They will aid in the ejection of error. They will maintain law and order, and cheerfully await the certainty of ultimate perfection." pp. 96, 97; Nearly two millennia before, Christ Jesus, prophesying world upheaval, said, "when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh." Luke 21:28;
