A testimony to the efficacy of Christian Science is long overdue...

A testimony to the efficacy of Christian Science is long overdue from me, for my life has been blessed in every way by this beautiful and practical religion.

I was enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School when I was two and regularly attended until I was twenty. The lessons learned there stood me in good stead when I went to college, because I had begun to question everything I had been taught up to that time and was much taken up into the social whirl. I did not abandon all the truths I had learned, however, and did maintain a token connection with a branch church and a Christian Science college organization. Then, during my senior year I thought back on a healing I had had two summers previously, and this single angel reminder awakened me and set my feet back on the proper path.

I was working on a construction project one hot summer day, not thinking of anything in particular, when I was assaulted by a severe headache of a type which had long bothered me. I sat down on the edge of the ditch I was working in and drew a breath. In that instant, Mary Baker Eddy's words from page 210 of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany flooded into my thought, "Beloved Christian Scientists, keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love, that sin, disease, and death cannot enter them." The next instant the headache vanished, and I gained a real understanding of what it can mean to keep one's mind filled with Truth and Love. This remains a beacon to me that I often use to remind myself of the instantaneous effect of right thinking. A few months later I determined to have class instruction to bolster my renewed inspiration, and did later have that course which proves so rewarding for all future practice.
