In 1950, after two major and several minor operations, I was told that there was no cure for endometriosis as I was manifesting it. I was also suffering from an ulcerated colon, which had not been healed by continued and varied medical treatment. It appeared that I would not live to help raise our small son.

At this time my husband remembered hearing his parents tell of a friend who had been literally bent double with disease but had been permanently healed almost overnight through Christian Science. In desperation we sought out one whom we knew to be a Christian Scientist and asked what we should do. She told us of the consecrated practitioners, who devote their lives to helping others find health through an understanding of God and man's relationship to Him. An appointment was made to call upon one, and then daily treatment was begun.

I had always had an inner compulsion to know more about God and His universe and to resolve in some way the conflict between what the Bible says and what appeared to be going on in the world. We were working members of a Protestant church, and I also studied comparative religion and philosophy seeking to find the solution. As my husband's work moved us about the country a great deal, I had put my eager questions to our various pastors, but they were not answered to my satisfaction. As I began to earnestly study Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, along with the Bible, I began to glimpse its logic and see that here was a basis for answers to my questions.
