I am humbly grateful to have been raised in a Christian Science home and to have had the added blessing of attendance at a Christian Science Sunday School from the age of three to twenty. Many of the so-called childhood diseases were healed quickly through the prayerful work of my mother and a devoted grandmother, and I found the training I received at home and in Sunday School of inestimable value through my teen years and beyond. Serving in the Sunday School, where I played the piano for several years, was a joy, and I received much pleasure, after I was no longer of the age to be a pupil, in teaching a class of little girls.

I would like to tell of a healing I had that stands out to me as a large step in my growth in understanding the application of Science. Some time ago I was struggling with what had seemed at first to be a very sore throat, but after a few days I noticed that it felt as though there were some enlargement, a feeling as though something was stuck there. I knew that as an image of God, I could not be harmed, and that I must pray to understand my true spiritual nature as a perfect idea of God.

I diligently studied Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. One of the things I found very helpful was this sentence (p. 463), "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive." Also (p. 162), "Christian Science brings to the body the sunlight of Truth, which invigorates and purifies." But despite my vigorous declarations of Truth, the discomfort continued, and I was becoming discouraged. The more I prayed, the more persistent the condition seemed to become.
