My first experience of healing in Christian Science was that of arthritis, which had been quite painful day and night.

At that time I was a member of an orthodox church, and I knew very little of Christian Science. I had taken chiropractic treatments two and three times a week without relief. A relative, who was a devoted student of Christian Science, had explained some of the teaching to me, sending me the literature and giving me the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. I read it every spare moment I had.

After reading Science and Health until late one evening, I fell into a quiet, restful sleep. I awakened quite refreshed the following morning (Sunday). I lay meditating for some time, as it was quite early. Suddenly the thought came to me that if I wanted Christian Science to heal me I should be up and doing. Immediately I arose, dressed for church, and walked two miles that sunny Sunday morning, rejoicing all the way. I shall never forget this experience. It was wonderful. I was healed, and never again did I have pains in my arms. I slept peacefully at night. This was the beginning of my study of Christian Science, and my first healing.
