The Path to Freedom

"Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:32; When Christ Jesus spoke these words to his hearers and they questioned him, "We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?" it was evident that they did not comprehend that the Master was referring to the freedom conferred by demonstrating spiritual understanding. It is clear from the life and works of the Way-shower that this freedom is freedom from the evils that plague mankind—sin, disease, sorrow, poverty, and the like. The teachings of Jesus, made clear in this age by Christian Science, positively map out the path to this desirable goal.

When demonstrated, this Science proves that there is, in reality, nothing but God, perfect Life, infinite good expressing itself, and that creation, including man, is actually this expression. Therefore any condition that does not conform or measure up to the perfection of God's creation may be classed as unreal, to be discarded as illusion.

Spiritual progress unfailingly brings this unchanging truth to light and reveals true freedom and what it really means to every individual. The freedom we all need, and the freedom which, in reality, we all have as our birthright, is not the freedom to tread the blind path of self-love and self-will but the path of dominion over that which is ungodlike, destructive, baneful, and therefore unreal. We become acquainted with genuine freedom in proportion to our understanding of God and His creation. Spiritual sense demonstrates freedom—reality; material sense is bondage—unreality. The former must displace the latter before we can know freedom in its true sense.
