My hope is that this testimony of my deep gratitude for many healings in Christian Science may encourage others who are fairly new students of this Science.
One healing that stands out especially is that of the smoking habit. I smoked heavily for over thirty years. This was not an easy habit to break, and many dispositional traits had to be overcome, but with the help of a dedicated Christian Science practitioner I finally learned to look to God for true satisfaction rather than to a cigarette.
In Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy we read (p. 308),"Jacob was alone, wrestling with error,—struggling with a mortal sense of life, substance, and intelligence as existent in matter with its false pleasures and pains,—when an angel, a message from Truth and Love, appeared to him and smote the sinew, or strength, of his error, till he saw its unreality." The word "alone" stood out, for I realized that no one could break this habit for me. But I also saw that even if I felt alone I was actually inseparable from God as His child and He would help me as He had helped Jacob.
