Christian Science was in our family from my earliest years. I am grateful to my mother for instilling in me an abiding love and deep respect for Christian Science, which never left me even during the fifteen years I did not attend church. Eventually I could see that there was no other logical or satisfactory solution to the problems of life, and I found my way back to my true church home. Branch church membership has strengthened and supported me for many years now, and serving in various capacities has brought joy and great satisfaction into my life. As I gain clearer views of the magnitude of Christian Science, I stand in awe of Mrs. Eddy. The size of the job she tackled and brilliantly accomplished staggers one.

Among the numerous healings I've experienced are quick release from food poisoning without needing any recuperation period, incipient nervous breakdown, a serious knee injury, total helplessness because of a back condition, and a foot severely injured when a horse came down on it with his entire weight. (In this instance I was able to go dancing the following evening!) All the foregoing healings were accomplished through the scientific prayers of a Christian Science practitioner. My heart overflows with gratitude for all the selfless practitioners throughout the Field.

I would like to speak in detail of one healing accomplished almost entirely through my own efforts. Shortly before we were to leave on an extended trip, a little eruption began to form on my upper arm. It was not very large, and I mainly ignored it, thinking it would go away. Then it began enlarging and scabbing over. About this time I needed to plan a wardrobe for the trip, and there was the greatest temptation to buy dresses with sleeves long enough to cover the now ugly blemish. This awakened me. I could see that I was accepting it as a permanent and real part of my identity. At this moment of decision, I correctly decided to include sleeveless dresses in my travel wardrobe. I then had one treatment from a practitioner. This did not heal the eruption, but it dispelled my fear. From then on I never doubted my ability to work out a complete healing.

We started on our trip, which took us into many countries. Each time the physical difficulty came to thought I denied its existence and therefore its ability to cling to my true identity, the spiritual image of God. Although it was necessary to use a dressing to cover the place, no one ever appeared to notice it. Finally, almost four months after it first appeared, the entire manifestation came away with the dressing, and the skin underneath was perfectly clear. It was a joyful moment! This statement of Mrs. Eddy's in Science and Health that had sustained me often during this had been proved true (p. 463): "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive."

I owe much to Christ Jesus, to Christian Science, to Mrs. Eddy, and to the consecrated teacher of Christian Science from whom I had class instruction. It will take a life of continual dedication even to begin to repay the debt.
