Think Generously of your Neighbor

What we think of other people and the way we treat them is important. We all have neighbors. We meet them in business, in the street, in church, and in the supermarket. Our contact with them may be casual or intimate, but it should always be generous.

"Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself"Matt. 19:19; is the Golden Rule laid down in the Old Testament and insisted upon by Christ Jesus. Fully to obey this rule requires a deep, consistent recognition of the perfect, Godlike individuality both of oneself and of one's neighbors everywhere—the highest demonstration of Christly consciousness that can be attained. It needs deep spiritual understanding of the perfection of true identity in all its multifarious forms, and dedication to the vision of infinite, divine Love and its idea as revealed in Christian Science. It is the ultimate of Christian social ethics.

Paul said, "In lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves."Phil. 2:3; Note: better. Does this injunction conflict with the Master's rule? Christian Science shows that it does not. Rather does it emphasize the importance of expressing in daily life those spiritual qualities that will guide us through happy human relationships to the eventual demonstration of the full glory of universal divine Love.
