Happy Faces

[For children]

Judy's teacher, Mrs. Thompson, liked to draw a happy face on the best work papers. It was her way of saying, "You are doing excellent work." Everybody tried their best to win happy faces on their schoolwork. Judy did, too.

"Now, class," said Mrs. Thompson one day, "I'm going to explain a new idea in arithmetic. Please pay attention."

Judy listened very carefully. Then the teacher gave an assignment. Judy read the problems over four or five times but couldn't understand what to do. The examples were just too hard. For a few minutes she sat at her desk worrying.
