Christian Science came into my life most unexpectedly
Christian Science came into my life most unexpectedly. When I was nineteen years of age, my family were advised by a medical specialist that I had a goiter, which would require a surgical operation. Other members of our family had been afflicted with this same trouble. Because of my age the specialist suggested that I first have a year's period of rest.
I was sent to live with an aunt who was a Christian Scientist. She kept her Bible and her Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy on the living room table. Some time after I had been living with her, I realized I was waiting each night for the other members of our household to retire so that I could be alone to read these textbooks of Christian Science.
In early spring I had my first demonstration of what I had learned from my reading. On a trip I suffered from sightseer's sore feet. I remember some mental action both of claiming and feeling God's love, and a sense of rebellion against this limitation that helped me see I need not suffer. I was able to walk freely from then on.
