It is nearly twenty-eight years since I was first introduced to Christian Science, and during the intervening years it has been my only physician. I was healed of a combination of ailments classified by medical specialists as gallstones, pernicious anemia, hemorrhoids, and chronic constipation. Due to improper dieting and lack of solid foods I lost considerable weight, becoming weaker and more fearful of recovery. Surgery was recommended to forestall further complications. I was given five days to prepare myself for this ordeal. But the five days turned out to be a blessing. A dear relative, knowing of my suffering, introduced me to Christian Science. She told me that what I really needed was mental surgery to remove my erroneous concept of God and man and free me of the bondage of fear, suffering, and lost vitality.

I immediately consulted a Christian Science practitioner, who explained to me that I was the offspring of a loving Father, God, divine Mind, whose children are as perfectly constituted as is He, because we are His image and likeness, and therefore I could not lose vitality, since it is the breath of Life, divine Love, in which we have our being. She told me to study the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, paying strict attention to the first chapter on Prayer, as I needed to know how to pray and to whom I was praying. I soon witnessed the power of prayer in Christian Science, for in a few days I was startled by suddenly passing many gallstones. I called the practitioner to report what took place and to assure her that I had disposed of my medicine after reading Science and Health.

She in turn assured me that God was working His purpose out. I was told that to further understand what was taking place I should read what Mrs. Eddy says on page 401 of the textbook: "If faith in the truth of being, which you impart mentally while destroying error, causes chemicalization (as when an alkali is destroying an acid), it is because the truth of being must transform the error to the end of producing a higher manifestation." And on page 422 Mrs. Eddy writes, "As when an acid and alkali meet and bring out a third quality, so mental and moral chemistry changes the material base of thought, giving more spirituality to consciousness and causing it to depend less on material evidence. These changes which go on in mortal mind serve to reconstruct the body. Thus Christian Science, by the alchemy of Spirit, destroys sin and death." Her words comforted me greatly. My complete healing came within a period of a few weeks and has been permanent.
