The most wonderful gift I have ever received is that of class instruction. Since childhood I had claimed Christian Science as my religion, yet often I was lax and apathetic. But worse than that, I took this precious way of life for granted. Class instruction awakened my thought to understand more accurately the infinitude of God, the oneness, allness, and unlimited power of God, and the invariable spiritual laws of this Science.

The opportunity soon arose for me to put into practice what I had been carefully taught. My husband and I received a call in the night that our place of business was in grave danger; the lumberyard behind it was on fire. My husband asked me to stay home as he left for the scene.

At first, fear flooded my thought, but then I realized I was fully equipped to meet this emergency. I prayed, rejecting the fate that seemed to be ours and declaring the omnipotence of God. I found this statement of Mrs. Eddy's in Science and Health (p. 427): "Immortal Mind, governing all, must be acknowledged as supreme in the physical realm, so-called, as well as in the spiritual."
