Combine the Letter and the Spirit

With this wry observation the wicked king in Shakespeare's Hamlet ends an attempt to pray. The Apostle Paul expressed a kindred idea when he wrote, "The letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life." II Cor. 3:6;
