The words in this issue are related to the Lesson-Sermon in the
CHRISTIAN SCIENCE QUARTERLY designated to be read in
Christian Science churches on March 8, 1970.

I have manifested thy name (John 17:6)

The Jewish people constantly stressed the significance of names, and with them, a man's name was considered as virtually synonymous with his character, his reputation, or his real self, just as we constantly refer to a man's "good name" in the sense of his reputation or his character. In the present context the reference would clearly be to the nature or character of God.

The sheep of his pasture (Ps. 100:3)
