I have manifested thy name (John 17:6)
The Jewish people constantly stressed the significance of names, and with them, a man's name was considered as virtually synonymous with his character, his reputation, or his real self, just as we constantly refer to a man's "good name" in the sense of his reputation or his character. In the present context the reference would clearly be to the nature or character of God.
