"Train up a child"

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it," Prov. 22:6; we read in Proverbs.

How do we teach a child to love good, to be a law-abiding citizen, to love others as himself, to be as eager to give as to receive, to be of service to mankind, to be obedient to God's will, to give God the glory for all his successes? These lovely Christian qualities are best taught by precept and example.

Moses advised, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God, and keep his charge, and his statutes, and his judgments, and his commandments, alway." At the same time he said, "Ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up." Deut. 11:1, 19;
