Helping Our Questing Youth

In the Western world a new life-style is being adopted by many young people. This hardly can be called news, for it is clearly observable on every hand. But whether we approve or not, this phenomenon is here, and if we are wise we will not be too hasty in our judgment. We will sift the chaff from the wheat and try to discover what is positive and progressive in this new outlook.

Only time will tell whether some of it is just a passing fad. But be that as it may, beneath what seems bizarre and unkempt is a certain spiritual hunger for something better than selfish materialism. There is evidence that many young people are groping for the real meaning of life. If we look carefully, we can see evidences of gentleness, a longing for brotherhood, a loving concern for the good of others.

A significant news item from The New York Times Service tells us, "A new religious intensity appears to be making itself felt on U. S. campuses. It rejects the standard faiths, but some scholars and theologians say it has all the elements of a religion to go with the counter-culture developing among a large segment of the nation's youth."
