I would like to relate my experience in becoming acquainted...

I would like to relate my experience in becoming acquainted with Christian Science. Before knowing what it was I had attended four different churches and had always asked one question, "What is God?" The answers were so unreasonable that I could not accept them. Therefore I labeled myself an atheist and lived with that concept for about five years.

At the time, I was engaged in museum preparation work, and one day while dissecting an animal in the laboratory, the thought came to me strongly, "What is God?" It set me to thinking, and while gazing out of the window, this is what I saw. The soft rain was falling from the sky, the new grass was growing skyward, and at that moment a robin jumped from her nest, pulled a worm from the ground, returned to her nest, and fed her young. That was my answer: "God animates everything." It was a rather crude observation, but true. At that moment this thought entered my mind, "Seventy-five percent of a man's makeup is his mind." When I arrived home that night, I related the experience to my wife.

Two years later I was at man's extremity, suffering from spasmodic hemorrhages of the head left by an operation of the sinus.
