I'd like to express my gratitude for the Christian Science Sunday School, which enabled me to turn exclusively to Christian Science for the healing of a broken ankle when I was thirteen. I went with a friend and her family on a picnic and took an awkward tumble down some boulders. When my friend's father took me home and carried me into the house, the sight of the ankle was so ugly that my father thought it should be set by a doctor.

But I had already had healings with the help of a Christian Science practitioner whom we called on all through our childhood, and I had learned in the Sunday School about the nothingness of matter and the ever-presence and omnipotence of God and of His being the most skillful Physician. Perhaps, too, I didn't want anyone to touch the ankle. So I spoke up for total reliance on Christian Science treatment. This happened on a Friday evening. On Monday I didn't go to school, but on Tuesday I did—completely healed.

My father drove me to school as he habitually did, but I walked the mile and a half home.
