Discovering and Developing Talent

Every individual has natural abilities and aptitudes called talents. But too often talents lie dormant, undiscovered, unrealized, or underdeveloped. Many people believe that they have very meager talents, while others believe that they have no talent whatsoever. And, for a part of mankind, talents belong to the past, not the present.

There are innumerable factors that limit one's discovery of his own potential, but all are based on the belief that man is physical and that his talents are the result of genetic selection, environment, or luck. Actually God has given every one of us talents in great abundance and of infinite diversity. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and bestowals." Science and Health, p. 13; Not one person lacks the God-given potential for excellence and accomplishment.

We never need listen to arguments that we must accept limitations uncomplainingly and learn to live with unfulfilled dreams. We need no longer believe that some people have great talent while others are doomed to a life of mediocrity.
