"Through the valley"

[For children]

The smell of fresh-baked cookies filled the house. And when Kent raced Wendy home from school, he ran straight to the kitchen to see how many they could have. It was nearing the end of the school year, and they dumped out their school cases to show Mother all the papers and drawings they had, and the stars and check marks that showed how well they were doing.

Mother put a big plate of cookies and a pitcher of pineapple juice on the table and then sat down with them.

"I had a letter from Grandma today, and it said that Great-grandma had passed on."
