For many years before becoming a student of Christian Science, I...

For many years before becoming a student of Christian Science, I had earnestly asked the Father to teach me to pray. The style of prayer I had been taught and practiced seemed futile and repetitive. Sixteen years ago my search for true prayer was rewarded when I was introduced to Christian Science. I have learned that our lives must attest to the truth of what we pray.

At that time I had a particularly ugly rash on my face that had defied all ointments. As I studied Christian Science, I decided that I would rely on it for healing. A Christian Science practitioner was engaged to help me, but no result was immediately apparent.

As the years went by, I changed from one practitioner to another. Although I did not realize it at the time, each one helped prepare my thought for the moment when the error that was holding me in bondage would be self-seen and so destroyed. This enlightenment came when a friend suggested I read an article in a copy of The Herald of Christian Science. The article cited a case the same as mine, in which the sufferer had to rid herself of self-will, self-justification, and self-righteousness. Mention of these three "selfs" roused me completely to my own need, and from that moment I endeavored to overcome these false character traits.
